Light at Night

The objective of this Working Group is to make available a robust and comprehensive set of guidelines for safe and sustainable outdoor lighting practices that promote biodiversity.

To disseminate the guidelines to a broad audience, including policymakers, lighting professionals, and the general public. Part of this work will include a review of existing best practice guidelines on light at night and an effort to enhance them for the benefit of the environment and its three natural domains:

• Astronomical – Night skies

• Terrestrial – Plants and wildlife

• Sub-aquatic – Marine plants and creatures

While the issue of Light at Night (LAN) might appear straightforward, it is a multifaceted
issue demanding a balanced perspective and collaborative effort from all stakeholders.
As responsible global lighting manufacturers, we believe it’s crucial to embrace this
complexity and clarify our role in creating sustainable and beneficial LAN solutions.
