GLA’s President Jan Denneman was invited to Tokyo to attend the 100 years celebration of the Illumination Engineering Institute of Japan (IEIJ) in September 2016. Mr Denneman delivered a keynote speech ‘Trends and Opportunities in the Changing World of Lighting’ at which he discussed far-reaching recent lighting technological trends in lighting, as well as the response of the European and Japanese lighting industries.
Mr Denneman and his wife Alda were special guests of honour at an evening reception hosted by the Emperor and Empress of Japan and were chosen to have a short private audience with Emperor Akihito and his wife. Mr Denneman talked to the Emperor about the Dutch lighting industry and its long connection with Japan.
With public lighting accounting for nearly one third of the electricity use in Sydney, the City of Sydney Council was looking for a way to reduce greenhouse emissions and energy consumption as well as frequency of maintenance for their street lighting.
